"You know I looked around, for faces I'd know,
I fell in love with the people in the front row"
By: Hilltop Hoods

WHAT I'M WEARING:
Customised thrifted denim shorts, American Apparel Purple Tank, Oxford Flats from Topshop, Alexander McQueen Scarf, Chain Bucket Handbag from Zara & Vintage Pink Blazer.

The smell of spring rain refreshes me, making my pining for the sun a little less painful but it also sends me into a frantic desire to grab a cup of milky tea, a stack of books, a blanket and sit out on the terrace and listen to the droplets hit the terracotta tiles. Finally finished my Vogue Talent Contest entries today. Tomorrow I face the obligation and horror of the passport photo booth because, sadly a photo is required for my entry. I don't know what it is about those hellish little white stalls, but the photos they produce send me into huge bouts of despair where I feel like am out of proportion, huge headed scary-looking creature that barely resembles a person.

Jumpsuit Saturdays

Saturday, March 28, 2009

What I'm Wearing:
Black Jumpsuit: H&M. Shoes: Topshop. Jewellery: Vintage+Topshop+Asos. Black Blazer: Vintage Handbag: Balenciaga

Saturdays: late wake-up, fruit salad and some reading. I was up very late last night folding all my charity shop finds for the wash. While I love secondhand clothes, I really, really dislike the smell they all seem to have. I dedicate the inspiration behind this ensemble to my lovely friend Frances (read her great blog here)- who is officially the queen of the jumpsuit. She works the one-piece like no one else I know, and it wasnt until I saw her pull it off so wonderfully that I decided to give it a try. And now, there is no going back. The jumpsuit is versatile, comfortable and is probably one of the easiest pieces to dress up or down. Add heels and big earrings for a night out or flats for a daytime look. I'm addicted...

TWO SHOTS OF SPRING:

My favourite Spring cosmetics- spotlighted on my bathroom shelf.

What I am wearing:
Skirt & Belt: Zara, Blank Long Stretch Tank: H&M, Cropped short-sleeve blazer & Brown clutch: Vintage, Shoes & all head accessories: Topshop.

I don't have much to say today, I think I am still in the thicks daze that 2 hours of reading in a steaming bath induced.

All of you keeping telling me how envious you are of the warm weather in Spain and while running through the grass in swishy skirts and bare feet is a lovely sensation, there is nothing I would rather be doing right now than walking through London with a latte and stack of magazines in hand. At heart, I am such a city-girl, half of me doesnt think I deserve the lovely scenery and sparkling sun because I don't enjoy its full worth.

RIP YSL

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Throw in some red:

WHAT I'M WEARING:
Oxford Flats, Knee-Socks & Bow Headband: Topshop. Red, Checked Shirt: Vintage, from Paris.
RIP YSL TANK: Frassy Made. (Want one? Request one!)

Sometimes I go into McDonalds just for a diet coke- all the ice, I swear it tastes different- better, much, much better. I had a love at first sight incident with a sequined blazer today at a market- I found out it was two euros, snatched it up and now its mine to embrace eternally. Another sartorial relationship: yesterday I saw this lovely black bucket handbag with dozens of chains dangling off it(looked like someone had yanked it straight out of Rumi of Fashion Toast or Erin Wasson's closet)but the price-tag made me put it down, yet by the time I left the store, I was obsessed, I could not stop thinking about it. Today, I bought it. I'm such a sell-out. But, it looks rather beautiful sitting next to the balenciaga.

I have so much work to do. An overwhelming amount and it seems I just keep shopping to numb the stress that it all induces.

I'm am going to make a mug of tea and hit the books.

Black Bows&Sequins&Socks

Hello little boys, little toys
We’re the dreams you'll believe in
Crawling up the walls
Running down your face
Razor sharp, razor clean
Feel the weapon's sensation
On your back...
With loaded guns
Now hold on to me pretty baby
If you want to fly
I’m gonna melt the fever sugar
Rolling back your eyes

Handbag and Sweater: Vintage

After a huge mug of tea and a deep bowl of low fat yoghurt, muesli and strawberries, I am ready to start my entry for the Vogue Talent Contest 2009. Winner of the competition wins an internship at Vogue, which is more than enough motivation for me. You also get to have lunch with editor-in-chief, Alexandra Shulman; which would be a dream come true. So yeah, mine better be good- really good.

I was having a conversation the other day with someone about the ubiquitous, stereotypical topshop whore: the kind of girl who walks into topshop, buys everything in sight and subsequently parades around thinking she is fashionable. As much as I love topshop, fashion is about individuality, creativity...mirroring a topshop mannequin hardly leaves room for self-expression. I prefer pairing a 100 pound pair of topshop heels with a blazer I found in a charity shop bin for a pound. Or buying a plain white topshop tank and scribbling all over it.

Fashion isn't about looking like the girl next to you,
so get creative.

I am going shopping today, and for a run. I think a bath and some Lady Gaga is def. on the cards this evening. Oh and work, university work: boring, boring, boring.
How can I possibly concentrate when the sun is so forcefully shining through my windows?
Between the weather and fashionista.com, its a wonder I get anything done. Ever.
