London Fashion Week : The Highlights

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

London Fashion Week was probably the most amazing five days of my life. Parties, Beautiful People, Celebrities and a wave of inspirational clothes...and while its "cool" to act non-chalant about fashion week, I can happily admit that I am still in awe of the fact that I got to experience all of it. It would be impossible to document all of it in one post, so for the next couple of days, keep checking back- as I will be showcasing every experience of every day.

The Highlights:

1. Lilly Cole and Erin O'Connor at the Qasimi Show.
It was beautifully produced, very tasteful- complemented by the elegant classical music that was playing throughout the show. However, I completely freaked out when I saw Lilly Cole saunter down the catwalk, she looked absolutely stunning. And yes, I proudly took this photo.

2. Glitter, Sequins and Bling Galore at ASHISH +
complemented by a VV Brown performance.
Ashish really took me my surprise, his clothes were completely whacky- like Marc Jacobs on speed- I loved it. Better yet, the wonderful VV Brown sang while the models walked- it was an exhilirating performance that left me on a fashion high for the rest of the day.

3. After-Parties in Mayfair.
Free VIP passes, Free £200 massive bottles of Vodka, and "Show Me Love" on repeat. What more could a girl want?

4. Having the girls at Amelia's Magazine recognize me from www.befrassy.com and then invite me to the William Tempest Show.

Here are two of them: Prudence and Jennifer- both wearing adorable ensembles.

And a preview of William Tempest: the audience was eye-candy in itself: full of famous people, however, more on Mr. Tempest in another post.

5. Official London Fashion Week Cupcakes from the Hummingbird Bakery.
I hate but also love that these exist- so pretty and tempting and def. the reason why I don't have model bones poking out everywhere.

6. Fashion-Liberation:
Being Able to Wear the most outrageous outfits and having them actually being appreciated rather than scorned.

(more outfits to come later)

7. All the free stuff you get when you have a special "press pass"; magazines, LFW tote bags...and the best part = The Daily- The LFW Newspaper.

These Days I Wear No Make-Up.

What I'm Wearing:
H+M Frilly Lace High-Waisted Skirt, ASOS Graphic Tee, American Apparel Leggings, Slouchy Cardigan + Scarf from Primark, Suede Knee-High Boots from Zara, Fur Coat: Vintage and Balenciaga Handbag.

Sunday, I am going to London Fashion Week.

Part of me cannot actually believe it, I am so excited. I have my own press pass and everything, including tickets and party invitations to different shows etc. I will photograph what will ultimately be the experience I have dreamed of since I was about 13 and share it with you all. For these next couple of days, it will be hard to concentrate on my degree: All I want to do is plan what I'm going to wear and think exclusively about fashion, fashion, fashion.
(Sartorial Butterflies are flitting around my stomach incessantly)

Oh, and I've been featured Here: Vote for me, please?

Saturday Night at Klute. "It's always important to befriend the staff"

Recent Photography:

I wish the sun would come out so my sunglasses could leave the house.

It seems the more you plan something, the closer you verge to disaster. One of my best friends and I, both buried under mountains of work, planned our nocturnal attack on Valentine's Day; a night out in Klute, some wine and two very pretty dresses. It was our light at the end of a long tunnel, but unfortunately the light never came, and we came home at half twelve. Dissapointing.
Blogging has not been a priority in the last couple days, instead two essay deadlines consumed not only my sleeping patterns but also my life. It was a liberating moment when I handed them in Friday afternoon, and the Chocolate Fondue with mini muffins, flapjacks and a movie with friends was probably the most divine, not to mention, delicious way of celebrating. I have had a hugely indulgent weekend, magazines, tea, and just general lazing around the house. But now, with Monday morning around the corner, its time to continue with not only my fashion duties but also my degree-related ones.

And finally, the bag I have been craving for the last two week. Wang me please, just wang, wang, wang me.

Tuesdays Come, Tuesdays Go

Balenciaga Induced: I casually threw this on and thought that Balenciaga would match well. Cut-offs, as you all very well know are my favourite fashion staple. I just wish I could pull them over tanned bare legs instead of thick leggings.

My Bookshelf: A shrine to literature & fashion. You all commented my room, so I decided to show you a little more.

My creaky, old wardrobe- that drives me crazy: its absolutely stuffed to the brim with hundreds of clothes and won't close anymore. I complain about it incessantly, but I secretely love it.

Obama and Fur: What more could a girl want?

Sunday Hits Hard

Sunday, February 8, 2009
Yesterday I spent the whole day in silence in the library...I actually did not say a word to anyone all day; was rather depressing. I wandered home at about 7 pm, my head was sunken low with self-pity despite efforts to console myself with a big bowl of muesli. When my housemate arrived back home, she saw my expressionless face and said "okay, come on we are going out". So I jumped into a pair of lace leggings, some trusty cut-offs and styled some seriously big, big hair, and off we went. It was...an eventful night to say the least...we hit two clubs instead of just one, which I guess means double the fun. Now, I am completely drained: Fashion Show Rehearsals and Salmon Pasta are what my Sunday revolved around. Now I am gulping tea and contemplating a very early night with candles lit and the radio on.

I do realise I am wearing the same shirt in the previous post- I just can't get enough of paint splatters. This is my massive hair I was describing earlier. A lot of you have asked if this is my room or my closet...and it is my room: being students, we live in a tiny house so my room unfortunately, actually resembles a closet. It is cosy though but from what you can see- clothes are like my furniture: they are literally everywhere, folded pillars or just spilling out everywhere and anywhere. The other day I used a pile of sweaters as a pillow, it made me feel very Carrie Bradshaw to say the least.

This is one of my favourite recent outfits: I wore it in Spain...sadly Durham is far too freezing for such leg-exposure. And on that note, everytime I have to front the cold, another dream of summer floats into my head.

And finally, two photographs I stumbled upon that made me smile. Firstly, who doesn't love Charlotte Ronson? I am a little in awe of her complexion....and this shot is so natural and spontaneous. She looks beautiful. And for the second shot, is all about the cake. I'd love some cake right now...although I wish I could look as great as her while eating it.
Thats all for tonight. More on Monday!

Flowers on the Head: Welcoming Spring

Friday, February 6, 2009

The sun made a spectacular appearance today- it was like a tantalizing sample of spring. Despite the post-party fatigue, I went for brunch, vanilla milkshakes and had a lovely walk through town. In spirit of the happy weather, I was wandering around my room in a frilly, floral skirt listening to "Bette Davis Eyes". It was then I decided to try on the flamboyant flower head-band I bought a while back. Everytime I pluck up the courage to step outside with it on; one of my housemates gives me a sideways look...and off my head it goes, crumpled up and into my bag. One day it will make an appearance, its just a part of me feels absolutely ridiculous wearing it...

Yesterday, bruised by library stress and all the heavy binders I carry to and fro: I decided to wander into Topshop, chai latte in hand...and I bought these babies, the zippers actually make me swoon and collapse into a lovely, Nicole Ritchie-inspired coma.

Layers of Red

"To me, New York was Jackson Pollock sipping vodka and dripping paint onto a raw canvas."
- Edie Sedgwick, Factory Girl

Maybe its because my life right now seems dull, or maybe its because I'm just not a small town kind of girl, either way I am currently craving the city more than ever before. Waking up in Paris or London tomorrow morning....if only....

Last night I went for wine and Italian food with, it was nice to get away from the library/house, especially because Durham is so pretty at night. This morning I face 2 hours of lectures, I fear I might have to console myself afterwards with some coffee and a casual look in Topshop. I have been receiving a great deal of emails from you all- your kind words and questions keep me inspired, I do try to reply to everyone, but life is getting a little too hectic these days...

Monika recently went away for a weekend, her American Apparel Shirt and those adorable sunglasses really cheered me up- take a look.

As for my outfit (featured above)- I threw on a multitude of layers, including a H&M black tank-top, H&M leggings and a slouchy red sweater I bought in the Topshop Sales. Scarf is from Primark, Belt is from ASOS.com and the jewellery is made by....me.

White Days, Busy Days, Fun Days...

Monday, February 2, 2009
"Wishing the weekend wasn't over just yet..."
Durham is enveloped in white, and although this afternoon's walk; ambling through the snow amongst all the lovely old buildings was quite a novelty, it wore off rather quickly when I was trampling through sludge with handfuls of dripping wet notes. My weekend started off with an inspiring Friday evening 2 Hour seminar on Keats followed by two days of curling up in my favourite corner in the library; writing essays. Sunday was all about mugs of tea and reading - I stayed in my pyjamas and had lovely people come visit me all day.

Exciting News: Frassy Rags is officially opening soon.
Here is the first promo-shot: recently photographed all my t-shirts on the pretty Alison McArthur: I felt a little sorry for her: we were shooting it outside in sporadic hail...and all she had on was a skimpy t-shirt and leggings. I am currently participating as a model and the stylist for an upcoming fashion show. Best News is: Frassy Rags is being showcased: with my very own walk in the show!
Dedication to Pendants:
Pendants are my weapon of choice when it comes to jewellery. So, in a fleeting moment of boredom, I got together my favourites and took a few shots. It's pendants galore....

Balenciaga Lust:
Its like a new love I don't want to share with anyone but the time has finally come: a quick snap of what is not only the most beautiful bag but the most wonderful smelling (wafts of decadent leather that bring me back to the left bank in Paris)
